Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)
Some Things to Consider About LVT
Luxury Vinyl Tile, or “LVT” is a relatively new flooring option and is much tougher and durable than traditional vinyl flooring. It is priced similarly to ceramic and porcelain tile but is cheaper and faster to install. It can be used in rooms with poor floor foundations that have some flex in the subfloor, where tile would crack and break in those applications. Like porcelain tile, LVT is waterproof but sometimes it can be scratched and worn in heavily used areas.
LVT comes in two types: Multilayer, ridged core flooring that “floats” over the subfloor, and flexible glue-down vinyl flooring that is glued directly to the subfloor. The ridged core styles are preferred and those are the styles that we feature at Premier Tile. The key to the quality and price of LVT is the thickness of the wear layer. The very best LVT styles come with a 20mil wear layer. Better styles come with a 12mil wear layer. Some of the less expensive glue-down styles come with only a 2mil wear layer.
LVT is easy to install and most Do-it-Yourselfers can finish a room in a day with just a few common tools. Or if you prefer, we can install your LVT for you.
